Botticelli (1445-1510)

Youth

In his early life Botticelli was as an apprentice to Fra Filippo Lippi, many of his early works have been attributed to Lippi. Thanks to Lippi's workshop, Bottecelli traveled to Hungary to work on a Fresco in Esztergom. By 1470 Bottecelli had his own workshop and his paintings were characterized by aconception of the figure as if seen in low relief, drawn with clear contours, and minimizing strong contrasts of light and shadow which would indicate fully modeled forms.

 

Adulthood

 

Most of Botticelli's adult life was spent working on Adoration of the Magi, and the fresco in the Sistine Chapel, although his works were overshadowed by Michelanglo's. He was employed only a few times and mostly worked on committees
